iPad NAS Access for NetApp SMB / CIFS

July 28, 2010 by Vaughn Stewart 2 Comments

After sharing that I picked up an Apple iPad a number of readers asked how they could connect to a NetApp array via SMB (or formerly known as CIFS). In June some at NetApp engaged with the developers at Stratospherix and today I’m happy to share that Stratopherix FileBrowser 1.5 has added support for SMB access with NetApp arrays!

This functionality significantly extends the capabilities of my iPad as I can literally access all of my dat from anywhere at any time.

One of the features I really appreciate about FileBrowser is the ability to create profiles of each file server in one’s environment. As you can see in these screenshots from my ipad, I have a profile defined for an IVA projects and another for my home directory.

Below are some screenshots from my iPad.

Thanks to the guys at Stratopherix for the 1.5 release!

Another option is Air Sharing HD – my first app I loaded onto my iPad.
Supports HTTP/HTTPS, CIFS, SFTP, IMAP (ha!), bidirectional sharing (on demand, not default). Great $9.99 purchase.

Mike, Air Sharing HD does NOT support SMB/CIFS and the developers say they have no plans to do so.
